Travelling in Braj
Respect the sacred land — every stone, every tree is divine here
Calendar of Celebrations
The whole of Braj becomes a festival — every day is a celebration
Braj's Holi lasts 40+ days. Barsana's Lathmar Holi is world-famous and deeply devotional.
Krishna's birthday. Midnight celebrations at Mathura Janmabhoomi. Lakhs of devotees gather.
Radha Rani's birthday in Barsana. Grand flower showers, utsav, and divine bhog.
Annakoot offered to Giriraj after Diwali. Lakhs walk the Govardhan Parikrama.
The holiest month in Vrindavan — evening aartis, lamp offerings on the Yamuna, parikramas.
Radha-Krishna placed on flower swings. Temples draped in flowers — an ethereal experience.
Night of Krishna's Maharaas. All-night kirtan at Nidhivan and Seva Kunj.
Celebrating the manifestation of Banke Bihari ji — special jhankis and kirtan all day.
October to March is ideal — pleasant weather, and major festivals like Govardhan Puja, Kartik Maas, and Holi all fall in this window. Avoid May–June when temperatures cross 42°C. Monsoon (July–September) is spiritually beautiful but very humid.
By train: Nearest station is Mathura Junction (12 km from Vrindavan). By road: ~3 hrs from Delhi (145 km) via NH-19. By air: Agra airport (70 km). Auto-rickshaws and e-rickshaws easily run between Mathura and Vrindavan.
Yes! Most temples are accessible with rest spots near the ghats. Wheelchairs are available at some major temples. A local Brajwasi guide is highly recommended — they can adjust the pace for elderly visitors.
Braj is entirely vegetarian and sattvic. Don't miss Mathura ke pede (famous milk sweets), Vrindavan ki lassi, kachori-sabzi, and fresh temple prasad. Food is prepared with devotion — deeply nourishing. Avoid outside food inside temple premises.
A ~268 km (84 kos) circumambulation of all sacred sites of the Braj Mandal — covering Mathura, Vrindavan, Govardhan, Barsana, Nandgaon, Gokul, and more. Most pilgrims complete it in 30–40 days on foot. It is considered one of the most meritorious acts in Vaishnava tradition.
Yes, absolutely. Nidhivan is locked before sunset every single day. Entry after dark is strictly forbidden — this tradition has been upheld for centuries. Even the guards and priests leave before dusk. Please respect this fully.
Yes — from simple ashram rooms (ISKCON Guesthouse, Sevakumar Ashram) to mid-range hotels near the temples. Book well in advance during Janmashtami, Holi, and Kartik month when lakhs of devotees visit.
Banke Bihari Mandir's Shringar aarti during Kartik is once-in-a-lifetime. ISKCON Vrindavan's evening Gaura aarti is joyful and spectacular. Radha Raman Mandir's morning aarti is the most authentic. Vishram Ghat in Mathura has a beautiful evening Yamuna aarti with floating lamps.
With Love
